Query Submissions

Well I’ve submitted eighteen queries. I’m using my phone and having to type the query letter each time. Some agents ask for first 5 pages, 10 pages, first chapter, three chapters and 50 pages. Worked on getting info on flash drive, now I need to go to library. Already got one denial and one agency asked for first ten pages. I’m determined to do this! My stubborn Irish streak will come in handy.
Most agency’s take anywhere from two to six weeks to contact you…if they do at all.
Remaining happy and hopeful!!

My Query Letter

I am seeking representation for the series “Poisoned Soul”.

An epic trilogy in which the main character and antagonist, Mason Hudson, is afflicted with Dissociative Identity Disorder, one of his alters being a serial killer, as Mason is unaware of the explicit, gruesome murders he has committed, which propels himself and the public into dealing with this harrowing tale.

Mason Hudson AKA Hunter Cook share a body but have a separate conscience. Cook, the shrewd murderer ends the life of a beloved character. He stumps the law, evades capture but eventually, with the dedication of private investigator Benjamin Walker, faces our justice system. This first novel “Within These Walls”, lands Hudson/Cook in court with a shocking verdict.
With established characters and sub plots Cook goes on to slaughter and mutilate his way into becoming a serial killer. Protagonist Kevin Reinhardt brings Mason down in an exhilarating police standoff, which puts Mason behind bars at the close of the second novel ” The Evil Within”.
Courtroom drama opens “Without Remorse” where an insanity verdict is unanimous and Mason is sentenced to four consecutive life terms in a prison for the criminally insane. This final novel is mixed with new colorful, crazy characters. With Mason’s ideation of escape and sessions with Dr. Weston, the tale remains amazing and addicting… with a surprise ending.

I have published poetry in an anthology by Eiber&Wein

Excerpt from “Without Remorse”

Mason and his defense attorney in DID insanity case…..

Mason was sitting in his cell with his bruised, bandaged head cradled in his hands. He couldn’t believe this was happening to him.
The guard called out ‘Hudson’ and he went out the door, into the long room with phones and bullet proof glass.
Harvey was holding the receiver and Mason picked up the other end.
“I don’t know what to do…I’m damned either fucking way it goes.”
“I’m sorry Mason, but life in the San Lamas prison would be an easier, more quality life than a regular prison.”
“Quality?? With a bunch of insane fuckers? I really will go crazy.”
“This prison will have medications, therapy…professional help Mason.”
“To mother fucking hell with meds and therapy Harv…I’m not crazy!!”
Harvey had come to believe that Hunter Cook did exist. He knew he was dealing with Mason right now, but God help the world when Cook surfaced.
“You’re not crazy Mason, you’re sick. Maybe through pharmaceuticals and counseling they can get to the root of your disorder and eradicate Hunter Cook. They know more now about treating mental illness.”
“I’m not fucking crazy Harvey!!”
“You may not remember the things Cook has done but you know they’re true. He’s killed eight people Mason and mutilated some of them. Personally I’m terrified of you and your dark side. I’m thankful this is almost over.”
Harvey felt brave enough through the glass to be honest with Hudson.
“Well…you’ve done a bang up job Harvey. I guess I should be thanking you, but I don’t feel much gratitude at the moment. It’s just a case to you, but it’s the rest of my life in fucking hell!”
Mason’s eyes started to shift. His body became stiff, sweat was beading on his forehead and he began hyperventilating.
Harvey dropped the receiver. He witnessed hell in Mason’s face. It was Hunter staring back at him, his eyes red rimmed and vacant.
Harvey’s bowels loosened, his heart was hammering, he jumped to his feet, tipping over the chair and hurried down the long room.

Six hours passed and still no verdict.
Harvey Rehnquist called Judge Randall and asked for a meeting at his house, stating that it was an emergency.
“This is rather unconventional Harvey, what’s up?”
“It is something that I need to see you in person about, regarding Hudson and it can’t wait another minute.”
Randall agreed to meet Harvey on his front porch in twenty minutes.
“Thanks Judge…I’ll see you real soon…”

Writer’s Block

I’ve been blocked from writing for some time now. It caused frustration, angst and even some unexpected shame.
When in doubt GOOGLE!!!!!
Yep that’s what I did….
I found suggestions including: Do something else creative, Move your body, Eliminate distractions, Write at bedtime and early in the morning, or Do some free writing.
I decided to clean my writing station, unclutter and even dust screen and keyboard.
Then I sat at the computer…stared for a minute and started instantly typing.
This is what I wrote:

Writer’s Block

OK. I’m writing….ive had writers block ever since sarah was ” missing ” for a week. its been a shameful month since ive written anything. i googled writers block and it had ideas how to get back in the groove so im trying it. im supposed to write whatever comes to mind for a half an hour or so so here goes …
dennis is texting me i think that this is supposed to be uninterrupted. oh well. im also not capitalizing so i can write more smoothly talking about sarah makes me so sad!!! she is living in an abandoned house and has pneumonia and broken ribs… i hate seeing her this way, but theres not much i can do if she doesn’t call me daily I freak out. just freaked out because dennis didn’t call or text me back all morning  part of my fucked up mind ….i can’t help but think the worst all of the time. i wish i wasn’t like this!!! i remember where i left off because i have edited the first 100 pages so at least i was doing something constructive. the dishwasher is so loud compared to beth anne. i stayed with her two nights it was so nice to spend time with her. shes funnier than hell. my mind goes back to sarah. i know thats why i cant write. she is forever on my mind i always feel like shes dead or going to die. its so fucked up. i wish she could stay here but she doesnt want to quit otherwise she would. back to the book. its hard writing in the middle of a trial. to keep it interesting but also informational. at least im writing this it feels good to be typing again!!! tomorrow i will start working on my book i wont have any trouble writing i will just relax and work!!! just got another text from dennis i think i will stop now and look forward to tomorrow.

Well….I got up today and did my usual morning routine. Then I searched through many notebooks to find the list of defense witnesses. There she was…Caroline Christine Spencer.
I started writing and didn’t stop for two hours! I’m back in the swing of things…
If you’re ever blocked use this idea it certainly worked for me!!
Happily writing,

Excerpt From “The Evil Within”

Mason dialed Garrett with his demands.
“I want a helicopter to take me to the Jefferson County Airport, where I want a private jet scheduled to take me to an undisclosed destination.
“Mr. Hudson…you know we can’t do that.”
“If not this hostage is as good as dead!”
“Let me talk to my superiors and see what we can do.”
“You have exactly fifteen minutes or she loses a finger!”
Terri heard this and became hysterical.
“NO MASON! Please let me go, you will never have to look at or listen to me again! PLEASE!”
Mason tied her down with more tape and taped her mouth as well. Then using an army crawl on his stomach went to the garage to get the thermos, he was sweating by the time he got back and Terri remained securely tied down. Her eyes got huge when she saw the thermos. Why in the hell would he have a thermos?
“Garrett ….you have ten minutes, I suggest you hurry, I’m knife ready!”
He hung up.
Mason got the pint of schnapps out of the small fridge, undid Terri’s tape covering her mouth and told her to drink it.
“OH NO! You’re not really going through with this, you sick fuck?!”
” If my demands aren’t met they will receive a small token of my seriousness. Finish that bottle Terri.”
She was trembling to such an extent that she could not get the bottle opening to her mouth. Mason grabbed it from her and poured some down her throat. It burned and she sputtered but got most off it down. He was trying to anesthetize her!
His phone rang, the negotiator was on the line.
“It’s going to take us a while to meet with your demands Hudson.”
“Fuck you! I know there is a helicopter out there circling I can hear it. Line up that private jet. You’re out of time.
Mason untaped Terri’s arms from each other and retaped her left arm down on the arm rest. He did this tightly on both sides. She was screaming through the tape on her mouth and violently shaking her head from side to side.
Mason poured some schnapps on her hand and started cutting. Terri was trying to thrash around but she was taped so securely she could not move. She felt the serrated blade of the knife cut through her soft skin and passed out.
Mason sawed through the bone and cut through the other side of her finger, there was a lot of blood.
He wrapped her hand tightly with gauze and duct tape, she was still passed out. Mason got on the phone with Garrett once more and told him he had something for him.
“A small token from my hostage!” He snuck up to the side of the window where he could not be seen and threw the finger out as far as he could towards the crowd of waiting cops. One came forward to retrieve the unknown object and Mason let off a shot at him, he got him in the leg but with a glock it would be a grave injury.
Two cops went to his rescue and dragged him back to safety. They picked up the freshly amputated finger with latex gloves and placed it in a ziploc bag. One officer threw up and ran to a waiting cruiser.
“Mason! Are you still there?”
Garrett was met with a dead line.
Terri slowly came around in confusion. She did not know where she was or why she was there. There was an excruciating pain in her left hand. She saw Mason and it all came flooding back, she was beyond horrified. The cocksucker had sawn off her finger! She felt like she was going to lose consciousness again but she could not afford to.
She needed to be awake and try to defend herself. She hated Mason with an intensity and he would not hurt her again!
Mason’s cell rang, it was Garrett.
“Ok , Hudson you have our complete attention. We are getting the copter and we will have a private jet waiting at the Jefferson County Airport. The copter is refueling and will land shortly, then take you to your destination. Please don’t hurt the girl again!”
“No need to if you are really following my directions. If I find it’s a trick I will shoot her in the head.”
